I hope you’re doing OK, got your winter woollies out and your pumpkins bought, ready for the smell of sulphur and icy winds. My favourite time of year by far.
So, all good here: I’m finally back in One Cat Studio with the Hoodrats, recording new music. Very excited about this: we debuted three songs; ‘The Gulls’, ‘The Bear’ and ‘Boredom Is A State Of Grace’ at Xtra Mile’s awards party in London last week – was a perfect try-out. Plus we’ve got a pile more and I love how the stuff sounds. I want the new album to feel more like my earlier ones (fuzzy psych-pop). But first…
TEDxBrighton talk
This Friday 26 Oct I speak at TEDxBrighton 2012 about how the A.A. Milne show woke me up to audience age taboos. I’m taking an electric guitar and some slides. Sorry, this has sold out.
BRIGHTON: Dark Mountain FREE book launch event
Then this Saturday 27 Oct, 7.30pm there is a FREE, completely unplugged Dark Mountain book launch at West Hill Hall, Compton Avenue, BN1. I’ve recruited my friends Gill Sandell and Ingrid Plum to sing and we’ll have readings and conversation with contributors to the beautiful third Dark Mountain book. Bring your own booze – we’ll have tea and cake. We won’t be using the stage I don’t think, just the floor of the hall – should be lush.

LONDON: Union Chapel show with Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo
I was very chuffed to get asked to play at this big London headline for my lovely old friends Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo. It is on Wed 21 Nov, 7.30pm and I’ll perform a solo set, mainly on the Union Chapel’s beautiful piano. Tickets are close to selling out though, so if you want to come, get on it quickly.

The Case Against Crowd-funding Platforms
And if you didn’t see it, a couple of weeks ago I wrote an article for Louder Than Warmagazine, making the case against Crowd-funding platforms. The other day I also posted it to my Huffington Post blog. Got some interesting responses, including from a senior dude at PledgeMusic.
The case against crowd-funding platforms
I’ll be home-recording the usual Christmas EP though, and I’m thinking of doing a sponsored WestWing-athon for charity, attempting to watch all seven seasons of West Wing in seven days.
Anyway, that’s all, keep well, have a lovely November.
