DJ setlist from Grace’s album launch

On Saturday night I did a (pretty rare I suppose) DJ set, to close Grace Petrie’s album launch at The Good Ship in Kilburn. The gig was fierce. Grace on phenomenal form, a rammed crowd throwing every chorus back loud. Also Grace’s lowkey trio lineup is terrific; broadens her sound, varies her arrangements without losing focus. Great stuff.

Then I had a super fun two hours drinking white wine and playing records – nothing subtle, just happy to keep people dancing (and they bloody did too). I played mostly (80%) off CD, with a few tracks from my laptop and a couple from Spotify. I’ve made a Spotify playlist of the set, though there are quite a few songs missing. And here’s what my notebook says I played…

Supergrass – Grace
Billy Bragg/Wilco – All You Fascists
Little Richard – Rip It Up
June Christy – Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead
Blondie – Hangin On The Telephone
The Who – Can’t Explain (this sounded shite, something wrong with the CD I think)
Le Tigre – Deceptacon
Sleaford Mods – Tied Up In Nottz (“I woke up with shit in my socks!”)
Thee Faction – Singing Down The Government
Gloria Jones – Tainted Love
R. Dean Taylor – There’s A Ghost In My House
Thee Cee Cees – Deft Left
The Strokes – The Modern Age
Heaven 17 – We Don’t Need This Fascist Groove Thing
Pet Shop Boys – Go West (request)
New Order – Temptation
Carter USM – The Only Living Boy In New Cross
Credit To The Nation – Call It What You Want
Pulp – Do You Remember The First Time?
Orchestra Manoeuvres In The Dark – Enola Gay (wouldn’t play)
Erasure – A Little Respect (request)
Bronski Beat – Smalltown Boy
Clarence Frogman Henry – I Told My Pillow
Stevie Wonder – Sir Duke
The Blossoms – Baby Let Your Love Shine On Me
Vicki Vann track wouldn’t play either, no idea why, CD seems fine
Cliff Richard – Move It
Elvis Presley – Suspicious Minds (Elvis track picked by drunk Tim OT)
Clyde McPhatter – I’m Movin On
Kool & The Gang – Jungle Boogie
Elvis Costello – Pump It Up
Leatherface – Talkin Bout A Revolution
Flying Burrito Brothers – Lazy Days
Dolly Parton – I Get A Kick Out Of You
(my notes get a bit blurry here)
Beatles – Good Day Sunshine
Bellowhead – Roll Alabama
Neville Brothers – Down In The Hole
Albert Finney in The Dresser shouting “Stop that train!”
changeover track: Roberta Flack – Compared To What

I planned to finish with Super Furry Animals – Man Don’t Give A Fuck but it didn’t quite pan out because I mislaid the CD at the changeover moment. Was a bit wrecked by then.
