The new Louis Barabbas single is a joy and I had a magic moment playing Loudon’s Motel Blues after O’Hooley & Tidow’s ace Elliott Smith cover – only as it was playing I spotted their album also has a Loudon song. Here’s the tracklisting for Chris T-T’s Midnight Campfire episode #54 first broadcast on Wed 2 Sep, 2015. The second hour is my interview with folk singer, theatre composer, songwriter and Bellowhead bandleader Jon Boden (who also supplies this week’s Campfire Songbook entry). I love this conversation – it’s wide ranging and in-depth. Jon is a great thinker on music as well as a peerless performer. Weirdly, for the radio I had to mix it ‘live’ because I outputted the files in the wrong format, so I ran it all directly off the laptop. But that’s cool, it sounds fine I think. I’m not sure the mix was right in the first half-hour and felt tired at the start – but then I got more and more into it (music-wise it balances out great); increasingly good new music is showing up now, ahead of the autumn release flurry, so I must be careful to resist playing just endless new things with nothing familiar.
